Jason De Heus was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. He joined the Air Force at a young age, knowing he needed discipline as he had been kicked out of the school district in the Mat-Su Borough.
Jason battled a substance abuse problem for years, entering multiple treatment centers throughout those difficult years. Jason is thrilled to be celebrating over one year of sobriety with, he says, the help of God, his family and friends, and his passion for running.
He says that at a young age he craved something deeper and went with his friends to their churches to see the culture and find what he was missing. After missed connections at Catholic and Pentecostal churches, he wasn't exactly sure what religion might have in store for him.
Jason has retired from the AirForce after serving 21 years and is currently pursuing a filmmaking degree. Along with his time spent serving at the church and his school work, Jason is also training to break a world record as he runs from Fairbanks to Anchorage next summer.
